Research

Understanding racialised harm through lived experience.

Racialised harm extends beyond individual incidents. It operates through organisational practices, decisions and responses, including what happens when people raise concerns, challenge decisions or seek accountability.

The Esther Practice gathers accounts from people who have experienced, witnessed or raised concerns about racialised harm within organisations and institutions.

This research looks beyond individual incidents to examine recurring patterns, how decisions are made, whose experiences are recognised and what happens when harm is reported or challenged.

By bringing different accounts together, the research seeks to build a clearer picture of how racialised harm operates, how it is sustained and where meaningful change may be needed.

Before You Contribute

The Esther Practice uses submitted accounts to research recurring patterns of racialised harm and how organisations and institutions respond.

Participation is voluntary. These research routes are not services for individual complaint resolution, therapeutic support or casework.

Contributing an experience does not guarantee an individual outcome or immediate institutional change.

Please read the information and consent arrangements provided within each form before submitting your account.

Racialised Harm in Organisations: Share Your Experience

Have you experienced, witnessed or raised concerns about racialised harm within an organisation?

This form invites you to record what happened, how the organisation responded and what followed. Your account contributes to research examining recurring patterns of racialised harm, including how concerns are recognised, handled and addressed.

Racialised Harm in Institutions: Anonymous Questionnaire

How do institutions respond when people raise concerns, challenge decisions or seek accountability?

This anonymous questionnaire explores people's experiences across institutional settings, including how they are treated, whether their concerns are recognised, and what happens when organisations are made aware of problems.

Your responses contribute to research identifying recurring patterns across different institutions.

Racialised Harm in Schools: Parent and Carer Account

Has your child experienced racialised harm at school? Have you raised concerns about how your child has been treated or how decisions affecting them have been made?

This form invites parents and carers to share their experiences, including what happened, how the school responded and what followed.

These accounts contribute to research examining how racialised harm is experienced, recognised and responded to within education systems.

Taking Part in a Research Interview

Some experiences may be explored in greater depth through The Esther Practice's research interview.

These interviews examine the circumstances surrounding an experience of racialised harm, how the organisation responded and the consequences that followed.

This pathway currently begins through the Share Your Experience form. Where further exploration is appropriate, participation is discussed separately and requires additional consent.
