The Gap Diagnostic
An in-depth examination of racialised harm within your organisation.
The Gap Diagnostic investigates how patterns of racialised harm emerge, operate and become sustained within organisational systems.
Through a structured process, staff accounts are gathered, anonymised and analysed against The Esther Practice's pattern library. The investigation examines the relationship between staff experiences and organisational practices, identifying the mechanisms through which harm is produced or sustained, and where accountability may be absent or ineffective.
The outcome is a comprehensive Pattern Report that identifies the patterns operating within the organisation, explains the mechanisms sustaining them and sets out structural recommendations for meaningful organisational change.
How The Gap Diagnostic Works
1. Scoping
An initial conversation establishes the organisational context, defines the scope of the investigation and agrees the approach to staff engagement.
2. Gathering Staff Accounts
Staff share their experiences through a structured, confidential process. Accounts are anonymised to support analysis of recurring patterns rather than isolated incidents.
3. Pattern Analysis
Accounts are analysed against The Esther Practice's pattern library to identify recurring harm, the organisational mechanisms sustaining it and gaps in accountability.
4. Report and Debrief
A full Pattern Report is produced, setting out the findings and structural recommendations. A debrief session provides an opportunity to discuss the findings and their implications.
What You Receive
A Comprehensive Pattern Report
The Gap Diagnostic produces a detailed Pattern Report that examines the patterns of racialised harm identified through staff accounts and the organisational conditions that allow them to persist.
The report includes:
The recurring patterns of racialised harm identified through the evidence.
Analysis of the organisational mechanisms through which harm is sustained.
Identification of gaps in organisational accountability.
Three to five structural recommendations, linked to specific organisational decision points.
A debrief session accompanies the report, providing an opportunity to discuss the findings, their implications and the recommended actions.
The Gap Diagnostic can be commissioned independently. Organisations do not need to complete The Pulse Diagnostic first.
Enquire About The Gap Diagnostic
If your organisation is seeking to understand recurring patterns of racialised harm and the systems that sustain them, get in touch to discuss whether The Gap Diagnostic is appropriate.
The Esther Practice does not accept commissions where there is a conflict of interest with the practitioner’s other professional roles. Any affiliation is declared on the intake form and clarified at the scoping call before any work is agreed.
